Senate Passes Local Natick Bill
(BOSTON) – Today, Senator Karen Spilka and Senator Richard Ross announced that the Senate passed a bill to increase the term limits of employment contracts the Town of Natick can offer to any new Chief of Police.
An Act Regarding the Duration of Contract with the Chief of Police in the Town of Natick allows the Town to offer an employment contract of up to 5 years with any new Chief. The term is currently capped at 3 years.
By increasing the term limit, Natick will gain flexibility in future negotiations with applicants being considered for the position. Current Natick Police Chief James G. Hicks was appointed in January of 2011, so this bill will apply to new hires beginning in 2014.
The bill is returning to the House of Representatives for concurrence before being sent to Governor Deval Patrick for his signature.
