Senator Spilka Asks for Municipal Reimbursements for Special Election
Senator Spilka joined her colleagues today in asking Governor Patrick, Senate President Murray, and Speaker DeLeo to put money in a reserve account to reimburse the cities and towns of Massachusetts for the costs incurred by the recent special election.
“Now that the special election for Senate is over,” stated Spilka, “we must focus on reimbursing our municipalities for the costs incurred in holding the recent special elections. Municipalities have the right to be reimbursed by the state for these expenses, and the communities we represent need this money in a timely manner.”
The State Auditor, in an initial estimate, stated that the municipalities would spend approximately $7.2 million on these elections.
