MetroWest Chamber to honor Senator Karen Spilka at 116th Annual Meeting

On Wednesday, November 9th, the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce will present the coveted ATHENA Leadership Award to  Senator Karen Spilka (D-Ashland) for being a consistent champion for education, transportation, working families, government reform, and taxpayers.

The award is presented to a woman or man who is honored for professional excellence, community service, and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence, and leadership skills.

Since the program’s inception in 1982, nearly 6,000 exemplary leaders in over 500 communities have received the prestigious ATHENA Award. By honoring exceptional leaders, the ATHENA Leadership Award Program seeks to inspire others to achieve excellence in their professional and personal lives.

The 2011 Business Leader of the Year will also be awarded this evening to John Strickland, Director of Corporate Operations at Bose Corporation. The award is given to recognize the specific leadership achievements of a MetroWest Business Leader who demonstrates effective leadership and civic involvement as hallmarks of the success enjoyed by the company.

The Chamber will also award the Small Business of the Year to Purple Ink, based in Ashland, to recognize the important contributions the company has made to the creation of new jobs and economic opportunities, as well as its community involvement in MetroWest.

Each year, the Chamber also honors its Ambassador of the Year. This individual is selected for their long-term commitment to sustainable growth at the Chamber and their dedication to reaching out to and working with other Chamber members. Gene Tarksy of Tarksy, Zanchi and Associates will be named this year’s Ambassador of the Year.
