On Wednesday, May 2, 2012, Senator Karen Spilka is hosting the 6th annual State House showcase of the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center in Natick.

For nearly 60 years, the U.S. Army has conducted some of its most advanced research on soldier equipment at the Natick Soldier Systems Center (NSSC). At this year’s event, representatives will be on hand to answer questions and showcase their innovative work to develop America‚Äôs future soldier and provide them with the best possible equipment in the world. Visitors can see and experience the equipment developed at this state-of-the-art research facility through exciting, hands-on demonstrations.

This fascinating event features displays showcasing past, present, and future war-fighter equipment, most of which originates from or was developed in the Commonwealth.

Teams from NSSC and the Program Executive Office-Soldier (PEO-Soldier) will have subject matter experts available for discussion and will also have the following items on display:

From NSCC: Future Force Warrior; Navy uniforms and equipment; medical research; Field Feeding/Field Services; Homeland Defense; Unmanned Aerial Vehicles; Microclimate cooling; joint precision airdrop system; special operations forces items; career and business opportunities; and more.

From PEO-Soldier: air warrior; electronic data manager; rapid fielding initiative items; modular lightweight load-carrying equipment; army service uniforms; flame resistant environmental ensemble; extended cold weather clothing system; advanced combat helmet; interceptor body armor with improvised outer tactical vest; enhanced night vision goggles; aiming lights; lightweight laser designator rangefinder; AN/PVS-14 Night Vision Defense; and the Thermal Weapon Sight.

A number of officials are scheduled to attend, including Brigadier General John J. McGuiness, Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray, Executive Office of Public Safety and Security Secretary Mary Elizabeth Heffernan, Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development Secretary Gregory Bialecki, Senator Richard Ross, Representative David Linsky, Representative Alice Peisch, Senator Michael Rush (Chair, Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs), Senator Thomas McGee (Vice Chair, Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs), Senator James Timilty (Chair, Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security), Representative Linda Dean Campbell (Vice Chair, Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs), and Representative Michael Brady (Vice Chair, Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security).
