Senator Spilka to Receive Arc of Massachusetts’ Legislator of the Year Award
(BOSTON) – Tomorrow, at their annual legislative reception, the Arc of Massachusetts will present Senator Karen Spilka (D-Ashland) with their Legislator of the Year Award for her dedicated efforts on behalf of the disabled and their families throughout the Commonwealth.
This is 35th year the Arc of Massachusetts, a nonprofit organization advocating on behalf of disabled, has hosted their legislative reception at the State House. It serves as an opportunity for people with disabilities, family members, advocates, state agency officials, and legislators to interact and discuss legislative priorities and other important issues.
Senate Majority Leader Stanley Rosenberg (D-Amherst) will present the Legislator of the Year Award to Spilka, who is one of the only legislators to receive this award twice from the Arc. Spilka first received the Legislator of the Year Award in 2007.
In addition, Representative Garrett Bradley (D-Hingham) will receive the Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council’s 2013 Legislator of the Year Award, which will be presented by House Speaker Robert DeLeo (D-Winthrop).
Also scheduled to speak during the event include Governor Deval Patrick, the Arc of Massachusetts President Frank Sally, Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council Chair Julie Fitzpatrick, and Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council member Henry Milorin.
