Legislature Passes Grand Bargain
Statement from Senator Spilka on the passage of the Grand Bargain:
"The Legislature made an important statement that it supports Massachusetts workers and businesses, voting in favor of a 'grand bargain' agreement that will bring significant benefits to the working families of our state, as work to close the income gap and help people climb the economic ladder.
We increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour, increase wages for tipped workers, establish a predictable sales tax holiday and ensure paid family and medical leave for our workers.
After fighting for paid leave for over a decade, I am especially thrilled that now no one in Massachusetts will have to choose between a paycheck and caring for themselves or their families. Paid leave programs benefit both employees and employers in terms of improved productivity, job security, economic mobility and health outcomes. I’m proud to finally say that Massachusetts leads on leave!"
