The following is a statement from Senate President Karen E. Spilka Statement from House Speaker Ronald J. Mariano.

BOSTON – Tuesday, June 1, 2021 –  “After a long and difficult fifteen months, the Commonwealth is poised to invest over $5.28 billion in American Rescue Plan funding. These funds are designed to address the profound needs of our communities, as well as provide the tools necessary to ensure a steady and equitable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic repercussions.

To ensure that we maximize the impact of these one-time dollars, today the House will be allocating them into a segregated fund, followed by the Senate next week. These funds will be appropriated separately from the Fiscal Year 2022 state budget, which will be in conference committee negotiations shortly. A public legislative process will allow all communities, especially those impacted the most by COVID-19, to help determine where investments are most needed. These investments may potentially be spread out over a number of years to ensure our continued economic vitality.

We thank the Biden-Harris Administration and the Massachusetts congressional delegation for making the American Rescue Plan a reality. We look forward to engaging with the public to ensure these funds benefit our constituents, our communities, and the Massachusetts economy.”
