Senate President's statement on the devastating events in Lewiston

The following is a statement from Senate President Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland):

“I am absolutely sickened to know that yet more innocent lives have been lost to gun violence, which has touched too many of us. I’m heartbroken for the victims in Lewiston and their families, friends and loved ones who now know firsthand the raw pain of having their lives devastated by a mass shooting. Today my heart is with each of them, and all our neighbors to the north.

The Senate has always been committed to having the strongest gun safety laws in the nation, and we remain firm in our resolve to pass a comprehensive gun safety and violence prevention bill this session. We look forward to holding a hearing on all of the gun safety bills before the Legislature to hear from the public and stakeholders on this important issue and getting a bill onto the Governor’s desk this session.”
