Senate Approves Bill Marking Annual Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day in Massachusetts
The first observance will take place this Saturday, June 7th, 2025
BOSTON—6/5/2025) Today the Massachusetts Senate gave final approval to a bill that would mark an annual Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day in Massachusetts. Once signed into law by the Governor the first observance will be set for this Saturday, June 7, 2025.
The observance will help bring awareness to a condition that affects hundreds of children and families around the Commonwealth, according to BMC Public Health.
The Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight gave the bill a favorable report on June 2, with all six Senators on the committee voting in favor. With June 7th approaching this weekend, the Senate adopted an emergency provision prior to engrossing the bill, to be sure that it would take effect immediately upon the Governor’s approval.
“Designating June 7 as Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day won’t solve all these problems but establishing a day of observance will bring more attention to a condition that affects the lives of many in the Commonwealth,” said Senator Cindy Friedman during remarks on the Senate floor. “Hopefully, observing this day will also help reduce the stigma associated with the condition, allowing those it affects to live happier, more open lives.”
Both chambers have approved the bill by voice vote on Thursday, sending it to the Governor’s desk for the final approval.
