Statement from Senate President Karen E. Spilka on Cell Phone-Free School Legislation

(BOSTON—7/24/2025) Today, Senate President Karen Spilka made the following statement regarding cell phone-free school legislation, which the Senate will take up next week: 

"Three months ago, I amplified the concerns many parents, teachers, and mental health advocates have about allowing cell phones, the most distracting devices ever created, in our classrooms. Now I am proud to say that next week the Senate will bring to the floor for debate a bill to make our schools cell phone-free. I look forward to seeing this bill through to Senate passage."
