Senate President Karen Spilka Announces Major Funding for MetroWest Medical Center

(BOSTON—9/16/2025) Today, Senate President Karen E. Spilka announced that MetroWest Medical Center is set to receive millions in state funding from the Legislature’s agreement on a supplemental budget.

“These funds will help ensure that MetroWest Medical Center has the resources it needs to continue providing compassionate and high-quality physical, mental, and behavioral health care,” said Senate President Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland). “The care provided at these facilities is a lifeline for families and communities across MetroWest and the Commonwealth, and these resources will make a real difference in people’s lives. I look forward to seeing the lasting impact for our residents.”

The funding is part of a supplemental budget bill that was reported out of committee today and is expected to be taken up on the Senate floor later this week.

In total, the budget sends $234 million to financially struggling hospitals and community health centers across the state, distributing the funds using a formula that assesses need. Based on funding estimates, MetroWest Medical Center stands to receive up to $10 million. The Center includes Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick and Framingham Union Hospital.

Following approval from the Senate and the House of Representatives, the legislation will go to Governor Healey’s desk for her signature.
